A motor generator (M-G) set refers to a composite device consisting of a motor and a generator mechanically coupled through the common shaft. Practically a motor generator set is a system where a motor and a generator are connected or rather placed in a single circuit. It is a device used to convert electrical power from one form to another. That is mainly it converts electrical power to any other type of power.

Motor generator set are also used to convert voltage, phase and frequency of power. They also find application in isolation of electrical loads from the supply line. Here is a pictorial representation of a MG set.
Here a motor and a generator are coupled together using a single shaft; they are wound around a single rotor. Necessary condition for coupling is that rated speed of both motor and generator should be same.

An hourglass (or sandglass, sand timer, sand clock or egg timer) is a device used to measure the passage of time. It comprises two glass bulbs connected vertically by a narrow neck that allows a regulated flow of a substance (historically sand) from the upper bulb to the lower one. Typically, the upper and lower bulbs are symmetric so that the hourglass will measure the same duration regardless of orientation. The specific duration of time a given hourglass measures is determined by factors including the quantity and coarseness of the particulate matter, the bulb size, and the neck width.

Depictions of an hourglass as a symbol of the passage of time are found in art, especially on tombstones or other monuments, from antiquity to the present day. The form of a winged hourglass has been used as a literal depiction of the well-known idiom "time flies".

Solar cell is a key device that converts the light energy into the electrical energy in photovoltaic energy conversion. In most cases, semiconductor is used for solar cell material. The energy conversion consists of absorption of light (photon) energy producing electron–hole pairs in a semiconductor and charge carrier separation. A p–n junction is used for charge carrier separation in most cases. It is important to learn the basic properties of semiconductor and the principle of conventional p–n junction solar cell to understand not only the conventional solar cell but also the new type of solar cell. The comprehension of the p–n junction solar cell will give you hints to improve solar cells regarding efficiency, manufacturing cost, consuming energy for the fabrication, etc. This chapter begins with the basic semiconductor physics, which is necessary to understand the operation of p–n junction solar cell, and then describes the basic principles of p–n junction solar cell. It ends with the concepts of solar cell using nanocrystalline materials. Because the solar cells based on nanocrystalline materials are complicated compared with the conventional p–n junction solar cell, the fundamental phenomena are reviewed.

A timer is a specialized type of clock used for measuring specific time intervals.

Timers can be categorized into two main types. The word "timer" is usually reserved for devices that count down from a specified time interval, while devices that do the opposite, measuring elapsed time by counting upwards from zero, are called stopwatches. A simple example of the first type is an hourglass. Working method timers have two main groups: hardware and software timers.

Most timers give an indication that the time interval that had been set has expired.

Time switches, timing mechanisms that activate a switch, are sometimes also called "timers."

• Color: Intense, bright blue or bluish-white. A weak spark will appear orange or yellow.
• Intensity: Sharp and consistent, indicating a strong electrical current. A weak spark is dull and inconsistent.
• Sound: A crisp, audible "snap" or "zap" with each firing. A weaker coil may produce a faint or inaudible sound.
• Performance on a tester: Jumps a large gap of 20–25 mm (approximately 0.8 to 1.0 inch). A healthy coil can easily overcome this resistance, confirming its ability to fire under engine compression. 

In physics and chemistry, the law of conservation of energy states that the total energy of an isolated system remains constant; it is said to be conserved over time. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; rather, it can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another. For instance, chemical energy is converted to kinetic energy when a stick of dynamite explodes. If one adds up all forms of energy that were released in the explosion, such as the kinetic energy and potential energy of the pieces, as well as heat and sound, one will get the exact decrease of chemical energy in the combustion of the dynamite.

Classically, conservation of energy was distinct from conservation of mass. However, special relativity shows that mass is related to energy and vice versa by, the equation representing mass–energy equivalence, and science now takes the view that mass-energy as a whole is conserved. Theoretically, this implies that any object with mass can itself be converted to pure energy, and vice versa. However, this is believed to be possible only under the most extreme of physical conditions, such as likely existed in the universe very shortly after the Big Bang or when black holes emit Hawking radiation.

Given the stationary-action principle, conservation of energy can be rigorously proven by Noether's theorem as a consequence of continuous time translation symmetry; that is, from the fact that the laws of physics do not change over time.

A consequence of the law of conservation of energy is that a perpetual motion machine of the first kind cannot exist; that is to say, no system without an external energy supply can deliver an unlimited amount of energy to its surroundings. Depending on the definition of energy, conservation of energy can arguably be violated by general relativity on the cosmological scale.

An amplifier circuit simply increases the signal strength. But while amplifying, it just increases the strength of its input signal whether it contains information or some noise along with information. This noise or some disturbance is introduced in the amplifiers because of their strong tendency to introduce hum due to sudden temperature changes or stray electric and magnetic fields. Therefore, every high gain amplifier tends to give noise along with signal in its output, which is very undesirable.

The noise level in the amplifier circuits can be considerably reduced by using negative feedback done by injecting a fraction of output in phase opposition to the input signal.
